Bahrain Obs

I am please to report that Juhani Kyyrö observed the first Grey Hypocolius Hypocolius ampelinus of the season last evening at the Saar Roost (11 birds seen). This Roost seems likely to survive at least this season before it finally disappears under concrete. It is worthy to note that the day time feeding areas for the species are not in any way threatened, so should this roost be totally destroyed we expect the birds to simply relocate, a secondary (occasional) roost area already exists at what is the BDF wadi. The first Bittern Botaurus stellaris in Bahrain since 1997 was observed also by Juhani Kyyrö at Badaan Farm on Wednesday 25-10-06 several flight pictures of the departing bird were taken for verification of the observation.

The number of Bee-eaters both Blue-cheeked and European at Badaan has increased dramatically over the last week providing plenty of scope for photography. Many take being photographed very seriously!!
