80% of all nests were found deep under the halophytic vegetation - the
nest scrape are in many cases quiet extensive, vegetation even when
thick if it was on or over soft sand that would be subject to wind
movement the site was always avoided. It is thought that this is the
main reason why most of the
larger islands have no Bridled Terns breeding despite a ring of thick
caostal vegetation.
