Commonly seen soaring in the thermals around the rockier islands they are often encountered far out to sea away from the breeding islands where they are seen taking food from the surface of the sea. The large rafts of seagrass that accumalates on the sea around Hawar in the summer are favoured hunting spots for the hawking of insects, as a species they do not dive for food.
