The largest of all terns breeding on Hawar they are now known to breed at isolated locations all around Bahrain, both on small islands and along the coast of Bahrain itself. The Hawar population varies from year to year 28 in 1998 (icludes 14 pairs in colony) 18 in 2004. The Bahrain population is thought to number around fifty pairs in total.
