Fishing forays which can be of many hours duration are undertaken in a cyclic pattern from Suwad, the same area is seldom fished two days in a row. The pattern would seem to be anticlockwise from a starting leg parallel to the Qatar shore to the east. The starting leg moves westward each day along well established routes. The distances covered are often immense, forays of well over seventy kilometres have been recorded regularly. Flights may well start in one direction but the return could be from the opposite direction.
