Flying speeds are about 15 to 18 knots out;  22 to 27 back - faster than my boat on the return. Flying along their selected route with thousands of eyes searching along the front line of the moving flock, when fish are encountered forward movement comes to an abrupt halt as the birds settle onto the sea to dive for fish. If the shoal of fish encountered is sizeable a fishing frenzy develops.
