The aggregations of birds making up the days morning fishing party form up close to the colony ready for a mass departure. Departures are normally within a hour of dawn but can be strange affairs of stop start when only eggs are present at the colony. Often the morning flight will after an initial mass departure and bathing, stop enroute to the fishing grounds which involves rafting up or roosting at another location away from the colony
